How I Work: The Straight Talk Approach
People often ask me what therapy with me is actually like. The honest answer: it's a real conversation. I call my approach straight talk and it's built on a simple idea: honest communication, offered with care, is what actually helps people understand themselves and move forward.
We stay focused on the present — what's happening in your life right now, how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors connect, and what you can actually do about it. You'll have room to express yourself openly, and I'll be an active part of the conversation: asking real questions, sharing what I'm noticing, and working through practical strategies with you.
The four things I build every session on
Honesty. Our work rests on genuine interaction — truth over pleasantries, always delivered with care. You'll never have to guess what I'm really thinking.
Clarity. We tackle things head-on. A lot of our work is understanding the connection between your thoughts, your feelings, and what you do — because once you can see the pattern, you can change it.
Empowerment. My goal isn't for you to need me forever. It's for you to understand and manage your own thoughts, feelings, and responses, so the tools leave the room with you.
Action. We don't just talk about problems. Every session moves toward concrete steps, something you can actually try between now and the next time we talk.
Who tends to thrive with this approach
In my experience, straight talk works especially well for people who:
Want a clear-cut way to deal with present-day problems — stress, anxiety, feeling stuck
Are navigating relationship or family challenges and need honest dialogue
Feel caught in patterns of negative thinking or behavior they can't break alone
Appreciate straightforward feedback and are ready to be an active part of their own healing
And so often, they're the ones who hold it together for everyone else — quietly running on empty, ready for a space that's finally about them.
What a session actually looks like
Direct conversation. We get to the heart of what's going on — no endless circling.
Real feedback. I'll share what I'm noticing as we go, which builds the kind of self-awareness that's hard to reach alone.
Goals we set together. You and I decide what progress looks like for you — and we work toward it, concretely.
A supportive space, always. Direct never means harsh. This is a safe place to say the things you haven't said out loud yet.
And whichever language feels most like home — sessions are available in English or Spanish.
The bottom line
Therapy doesn't have to be complicated or full of jargon. Sometimes what helps most is simple: an honest conversation with someone trained to help you see clearly, paired with practical steps you can actually take. That's straight talk and if it sounds like what you've been looking for, I'd love to meet you.
